Mary Low - Women's Timber Corps Member
Photographs courtesy of Freida Murray, Buckie, daughter of Robert Allison.
Location and year is not written down but the lady chopping the wood is named as Mary Low who at the time was a member of the Timber Corps going by the badge which can just be made out on the chest pocket. Mary is obviously chopping wood for the wood burning stoves that heated the buldings.
The sectional hut behind was typical of the accommodation units used around Shandford Lodge area where Bob was Chief Training Instructor for all the thousands of ladies that passed through the training camp there.
Any details about Mary Low would be very welcome.
An index card for a Mary Low born in Feb 1919 has been accessed on Scotland's People in Nov 2024 and gives a full name of Mary Esplin Low of The Grange, Hillside Road, Peterculter, Aberdeenshire. Mary was enrolled on 22 Jun 1942 but no details of training are recorded. Her place of employment is noted as Glendoick F. Camp, Perth and that she resigned in 13 Aug 1945 on 'compassionate grounds'.
