Timber auction catalogue 2 million cu ft 1916

This is a beautifully produced catalogue detailing 80 lots of mature timber on the Estates totalling 2,000,000 cubic feet (circa 27,000 cubic meters) in 1200 acres of woodlands for sale by auction. The catalogue details some of the history and ownerships of the estates and a few details on the measuring systems. There is no mention what so ever of hoppus feet measurement.
The other unusual point is the area measurement units of Acres, Roods and Poles or Perches for all the land lots with a Rood (1210sq yds) being a quarter of an acre and Pole or Perch (30.25 Square yds - should really be square pole or square perch) equal to 40th of a Rood. A pole or perch in length measurement was tied to the ‘chain measurement’ system whereby the 100 links of the chain totalled 22 yards and 10 square chains equalled 1 acre. A pole was 25 links in length or quarter of a chain. And we wonder why we went to the metric system!
There is a note at the end to say the on the day of the sale the reserve prices were not reached for many lots and only 5 lots were sold and a further three lots were sold after the sale to Robert Millar and Sons Ltd of Aberdeen and Montrose. In the margins of the catalogue against some lots someone had calculated and noted the volumes per acre.
