Monaughty Forest damage — 1953 Gale
Photograph courtesy of Forestry Commission, Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District.
A number of photographs showing the effect of the Jan 1953 storm on different species of trees of varying ages. This image has been noted as Monaughty Forest and shows a horseman working in among some gale damaged large Douglas fir. The photograph has reference number C1585.
It is good to see the horse is being worked with a short rein or halter and was no doubt guided by voice for much of its journey from stump to roadside.
Can anyone identify the Douglas fir stand and the horseman?
