Photographs courtesy of Brian Patience with help from Don MacLeman, Newnham. Photographs were taken by John Patience (Uncle of Brian) who was a forester at Glengarry at the time. John, originally from Avoch, trained at Glentress Forester Training School and was posted as a newly qualified forester to Mull in 1951, onwards to Glengarry in 1955, Queens in 1957 and then as Head Forester to Broadford, Skye around 1960 where he worked until he retired in 1990.

The forest has taken delivery of a new County Bogmaster tracked tractor no doubt to help with ploughing and cross draining on the softer peat sites. This is the wide extended track machine made by Fordson at the time.

Can anyone decipher the name plates on the grill of the tractor; and identify the location?

"Fordson Major Diesel". These name plates were usually affixed to the rear of the bonnet on either side, adjacent to the fuel tank. The 'Major' being the tractor upon which this conversion was made.
