Fowler and Cuthbertson plough at Loch Ard Forest

Appears to be another view of a Forestry Commission outfit Reg No JXK102 and FC No 0301 carrying out some draining with an F type head. Note the arched frame (with revolution counter) on this plough taking place of the original square frame of its predecessors.
Difficult to see exactly what is happening in this photograph but it would appear that the tractor driver is following the man with the marking peg, possibly for a new drain or to set up a line for a new set of spaced plough furrows?
The box on the arch with a viewing window looks a bit like a revolution counter or distance calculator perhaps driven by a linked rod activated by a cam on the large wheel. Can anyone say how this worked? What is the purpose of the second vertical rod?
