Dornoch Forest — Camore and Harriet Woods

One of a series of recently found planting maps for the Dornoch area shows the Woods of Camore, Harriet and Duchess Woods only. There is a yellow bounded area near what was to become the future Forest Nursery which usually indicates purchase by the FC. This particular map has been hand drawn from the standard OS map but excludes all the incidental data and allows FC information to be added more clearly.
This version shows:
1. Camore Wood compartments which run from No1 to 17 and planted in years 1928-9 thereafter the planting moved to Harriet Wood with compartments 18-37 planted 1930-32.
2. Also shows the additional area planted behind Harriet Wood in 1962/3 and compartmented with numbers running from 93-100.
3. The Duchess plantation Compartment Nos 72-83 planted in 1961 but not the later addition (Comp 75) planted in 1967.
The tree species choice tends towards Scots pine (SP) but there are many small areas of Lodgepole pine, Sitka and Norway spruce, European, Japanese and Hybrid larch, Douglas fir, even some Thuya plicata (Western Red Cedar).
