Report No 73 - The Vauxhall Victor Car

Date Added: 23 September 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1958 Picture No: 2000

Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.

Report No 73 details the results of test driving of the Victor Car over 1200 miles of public and forest road. The drivers appear to have been fairly impressed but this was relative to other available cars of the day. Note the comments on water ingress, access to engine, choke not shutting off, tappets slackening etc.

An interesting addition to the report was the comparison with the Ford Anglia in purchase price to the FC, the fuel consumption and driver comfort.
