Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.

Report No 68 is the result of an extended trial of this scrub clearing machine which had performed well in short trials on a number of sites. In this trial it was observed on three sites and given the task of clearing a number of acres in each and on two further sites covered with rhododendron the machine was tested on the all the available small areas.

The Wilder Rainthorpe Chopper performed very well in arduous conditions and the Director (England) was keen as per his notes to ensure this message went out to all the Conservators and Deputy Surveyors.

The principal of this machine in now used universally in the clearing of woody vegetation along roadsides and tracks as well as tackling undesired regeneration of trees and shrubs in other areas.
