Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Report No 58 describes the first trials of this PTO driven drum flail machine which ultimately evolved into the very high speed and super efficient machines of today which cope with large dimension timber up to a foot thick and probably more.

This trial demonstrated the potential of the machine to mulch areas of wood scrub up to 1.5 inches in diameter a long as the tractor power unit was capable of getting through the tangled mass. This particular model was a bit light for the job and unfortunately the drum speed is not recorded.
