Report No 49 - Swiss Light Logging Equipment
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.
Report No 49 looks into several developments in ropes, coupling hooks, rope drums and light mobile winch. There was nothing which struck the assessors as revolutionary or really significant but was of interest.
The coupling hooks look very like the C hooks of the cable crane era which had the same close diamond shaped entry mouth for the pair to attach together and to quickly disassemble. Used on the tag lines for attaching loads quickly onto the haul in rope.
