Report No 48 - The Roadless Brush Cutter
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Report No 48 describes a rotary brush cutter made by Roadless Traction Ltd which has some heavy swing blades on the ends of a horizontal rotor. This set up allows the swinging blades to deflect when they hit something solid such as a stump or rock.
This machine was successful in tackling material up to 1.5 inches diameter and certainly a forerunner of the modern machines.
