Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Report No 42 reminds us how far engineering and metal alloys have progressed since 1955 when it was common to rebore vehicle engine cylinders at 30,000 miles and fit liners. Noteworthy also is the relatively low mileage per gallon of engine oil used!
The doubling of mileage before cylinder overhaul and reduction in lubrication oil used convinced all that fitting Cromard Liners was the way forward.
