Rope Grab for Small Diameter Ropes
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.
Report No 41 describes a neat system of attaching a wire cable to an eye that will hook onto a drawbar pin or hook. The report does say that the idea is an old one and has been adapted for smaller ropes. This self same system was again used in later years for attaching cable crane winch choker hook and eye. What goes around comes around!
