Pulley Blocks for use with small diameter ropes
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. This report No 38 is really a note to alert people using pulley blocks and small diameter ropes of the costly problems of jamming the ropes down between the sheave and its sides. A modification to the blocks as described easily prevents this.

In the Forfar area around the 1950s this was called a "snatch pulley, if the pulley was anchored to a nearby tree and the wire rope pulled round it parallel to each other you then had double the pulling power.
