Report No 29 - Portable Power Operated Winch
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.
Report No 29 does describe the winch in operation and also its limitations but appealed as it was low cost.
More interesting is the hand written notes between Frank Oliver (Conservator East Scotland) and R Bleukinsop (Conservancy Engineer). Conservator not keen on the machine and RB saying that Boughton Winch on tractor more cost effective in larger tree size.
