Report No 22 - Light Two Throw Plough

Date Added: 19 September 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1953 Picture No: 1954

Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.

Report No 22 highlights the search for a suitable forestry plough that could cope with the range of conditions found in the many forestry sites. This particular experimental plough was based as usual on existing agricultural machines but with special modifications.

The photographs show that it was performing well in the heathery stone free heath and the results seem to have been favourable for this prototype trial to be extended to see how it performed over a 12 month period. Note the hand written comments from Director (England).
