Two Wheel Trailers (extension to lorry platform)
Two files containing about 65 Head Quarters Mechanical Development Committee Reports from 1950 to 1958 were saved from destruction by Jim Christie former Forestry Commission HQ, Plant Engineer. Jim, from Crook of Devon, has kindly made the reports available for scanning and entry onto this website. Please open the PDF to see this full report.
Report No 7 - The platforms on the small lorries of the day extended to only 14 feet and were unsuitable for carrying long poles from the thinning and felling sites in forests. It appears that trees were commonly taken to sawmills or other depots in their full length. The trailer extension was produced by Tasker of Andover for the trial.
