Caledonian pine near walking route?
Photograph taken by Don MacCaskill and image courtesy of Bridget MacCaskill, Strathyre. Don was based as Head Forester at Inverinan from about 1960 through to about 1968 before transferring initially to Allean Forest and then Strathyre Forest in1972.
Can anyone identify this location which appears to show some old native Scots pine in a mountain location which has a well worn walking path passing through it? The photograph is likely to have been taken in the 1970s.
Can anyone provide a current photograph from the same location?

It looks very like Gleann Laoigh Beag (Glen Luibeg) in the southern Cairngorms. The photo is taken looking west a few hundred metres west of Derry Lodge and just to the north of the sheilings in that glen. That could be the shoulder of Carn Chrom in the background and beyond the snowy southern ridge of Carn a'Mhaim.
But I could be wrong. I'd have thought NTS staff at Mar Lodge might help with some of Don's 'Lone Pine' photos.
