Inverinan Forest Nursery circa 1963

Don was based as Head Forester at Inverinan from about 1960 through to 1968 before transferring initially to Allean Forest and then Strathyre Forest in 1972. No information was attached to the photograph but with help from Duncan MacDougall, this has been identified as Inverinan Forest Nursery.
In this shot taken from the end of the transplant lines. The filled lining out boards are being placed on the freshly cut vertical edge and pinned to the ground surface. Note the different types of boards being used here to perhaps fit in with the length of the bed or perhaps short of enough long boards to complete the full length of the transplant line. The two short boards being fitted were the for the older style lining out beds where the short rows were made across the bed. The short boards are of a different construction from the long board beside them and appear to be bolted rather than hinged. On the long board note the long support leg out the back through which the ring topped metal pin holds the apparatus in place. The marking line peg is lying awaiting the cutting of the next row with possibly an information plate lying on the ground.
Duncan Macdougall believes the man carrying the board is Hamish Macdonald and the one walking towards the camera is Sandy Samborek but he says ‘I think that this could be the Eredine squad in Inverinan nursery as they filled in at times because their nursery closed before ours’.
