Teindland double root layer

Date Added: 26 March 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1955 Picture No: 1825

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

A photograph of a photograph with explanation of the double rooting layer system – one root level on the surface and one layer running on top of the impenetrable iron pan layer one foot below the surface.

Can anyone suggest who is the man holding the root?

John Keenleyside of Forres has identified the man in the photograph as John Wetherell who was in charge of Forest Research at Wykeham and on a research visit to Teindland Forest. John Wetherell was in charge at Wkyeham when John Keenleyside was sent there on his first Forestry Commission posting. Comment left on 01 April 2013 at 08:41 by Norman Davidson
