Forestry Commission Tummel Forest Centre

Peter Fullerton didn't recognise the people, but he has the the plaque on the right, which commemorates the opening of the centre by the Duke of Atholl in 1972. He says that Peter Barr and his wife were the first to manage the centre, followed by George Henry and then Peter himself, for a short time in the 80s.

During my dad’s time as Chief Forester at Tummel we lived next door to the centre at the Queens View. It was a busy and popular visitor attraction with exhibits on the work of the Forestry Commision, the area itself, history, wildlife and much more. The displays were regularly changed. The audio visual room was added later....programmes put together by dad and Don Amer.
The kilted gentleman in the photograph is the first warden of the centre.....first name Richard...sorry have forgotten his surname. I remember he would arrive on a motor scooter! He was followed by Peter and Maria Barr and then George Hendry. Talented people who showed great enthusiasm in their work and added much to the centre.

Fred Donald, the District Officer, commissioned a diorama, from a local artist, for the centre, showing the view as Queen Victoria might have seen it.
