Allman Fire Pump circa 1955

This was a ‘portable’ pump but took 4 men to carry it in rough conditions. It was a higher pressure pump than the Hathaway and used less water. Its best use was on the back of a vehicle with a tank of water and run along railway side tracks where sparks and small fires could be blasted out quite quickly. It was more temperamental that the Hathaway and with finer nozzles required very clean water. It was sometimes used on occasions in the very early days of herbicides to spray gorse and whins etc. The year of the photograph, location and correct name of the pump is uncertain.
