Bogallan Nursery, North Kessock
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many of those are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
On overview of the wide span poly houses at Bogallan Nursery which were used to produce large volumes of improved quality Sitka spruce trees from cuttings as well as some other species.
Can someone provide a little background information on the nursery?

I still can't grasp the fact of growing cuttings from a resin based tree?

I seem to remember an experiment done in Ireland where they tried this. While cuttings on their own would not work, they found that if they clipped branches off a healthy conifer, the regrowth on the tree could be persuaded to grow as a tree when clipped and planted. I'm not sure if it was a success or not.

Hi, I was a Student living opposite the Nursery until 1977. I stayed with an old lady, who I think was called Mrs. Young who had a son, Simon, and a granddaughter called Ann. The other neighbours were Maggie and Murdo. I remember many a good chat with John and Bunty and an older lady who was one of their parents. I never ran out of tomatoes!

Form Goes Here
They packed it in late 70s then Fountain Forestry moved in and started raising trees for maybe the next 15 years. It is now a busy garden centre Comment left on 19 May 2019 at 16:39 by sandy chisholm
