Professor Mark L Anderson - Edinburgh University

Date Added: 12 March 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1959 Picture No: 1678

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

George records that there was a Society of Foresters visit to North Scotland in September 1959 and they visited several State and Private Forests one of them being Cawdor. The name Cawdor Wood can just be made out on the maps propped up against the tree. Professor Anderson is seen here we see him going over his notes. Thanks to Jim Atterson, Inverness, (a former student of Mark Anderson) who identified the Professor from this photograph.

Mark L Anderson is of course one of the legends in Scottish forestry and originally worked for the Forestry Commission as a research officer and designed some early experiments on planting in deep peat and upland sites particularly on the Lon Mor at Fort Augustus.
