Can anyone remember where the fan was used? Was it used to help protect the winch operators from midge attack on those calm damp mornings?

Finlay MacLean. George Robertson is the man sitting at the back. The midge fan was mounted on the winch so that it would blow into the operator's face so he didn't have to take his hands off the controls to wipe them off.
