Ploughing tractors bogged at Lochans near Lairg 8
Picture no 8 - courtesy of Frank Thom. The pull has started! The bogged tractor is moving and lurching sideways, the first pulling tractor is winching it in when it can and being slowly pulled back to the second winching tractor. The second tractor is getting deeper into the peat with the strain.

I think that Angus Ross and Sandy Allison were the successful salvagers on this job. I am not sure but I think it was a fairly new catipiller D6 that was bogged near Thrumster in Caithness.

Hi David. Good to see your comments. I do remember you from your visits to the FC garage at Lairg with your father and later on when you were working there as an apprentice. You mentioned the bogging at Thrumster but I do not have any records of it - the above was at the Lochans between Lairg and Rosehall. Your father and the other mechanics were involved in quite a few 'extractions' and did it very successfully indeed. They were a great and very resourceful team indeed.
