Conditions of service 1974 — Tipper Driver

Date Added: 11 February 2013 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1974 Picture No: 1568

Document courtesy of Roy McGregor, Huntly.

Roy has provided a copy of his starting conditions of service when he joined the Forestry Commission in April 1974 as a Tipper Driver at the handsome salary of £22.62 per week.

The rest of the document which was given to all new starts sets out the main conditions of service, annual holiday entitlement, grievance procedures and a bit about retirement superannuation.

The document was written out in the Forest Office at Gartly Station most likely by Jean Charles or possibly Gladys Cheyne as the Bin and Clashindarroch Forests had just amalgamated. This would be classed as Roy’s home station and used to calculate when he was working on detached duty in other areas for which he would be paid subsistence rates.
