Glimpse of LochAwe and new forestry houses at Ford
View down an open hill to a group of new semi-detached houses. The hill is covered in rough grass with some broad-leaved trees. Two female walkers are making their way down a rough track.
The houses were for forestry workers at Ford on Loch Awe. The road is from Salachary to Ford. It avoided a long detour to the south but has not been adopted by the local authority and so is just a track.
There was a big expansion in forestry planting after World War II to ensure a supply of home made timber. It created many jobs necessitating new housing, usually built of wood. Changes in forestry management have since reduced local employment.

I remember these houses being built. Alasdair & Sheena Carmichael occupied the extreme left, the others being occupied by families: Reids, Gillies, Fishers, McFadyens and others ?? The roofline to the right of the houses is the Ford Church. The track was the "Old Ford Road" which as described in the text, skirted the southern side of Dun Dubh and joined the main Lochgilphead/Oban road
