Cairnbaan 1934 Timber Yard
View looking down on the canal. A motor boat is sailing towards the lock. A yacht is moored close to the lock gate. A motor bike is parked nearby. There is a timber yard by the towpath. A swing bridge carries the road across the canal.
Fishing boats and puffers were still important traffic in the 1930s but yacht and cabin cruiser traffic was increasing.
The Crinan Canal opened in 1801 but required frequent repairs until Thomas Telford made improvements in 1817. Ships could now avoid the difficult route round the Mull of Kintyre. The fishing boats and puffers which were once the main traffic have been replaced by yachts and cabin cruisers.

my family also lived here before we moved to Achnamara, My father was James Peat. if anyone new him please get in contact with me, He also played football, but cant seem to get any further on which team he was in.
