Dalerb Car Park and Picnic site — Drummond H

The car park surface and the building look relatively new and the sign points up hill to the Forest office. It this the site of the former Drummond Hill Forest office?
Any information on this office and the people who worked there would be very welcome.

Alan - Great list of names! As regards the forester named Sandilands that may have been Sandy Sandilands who hailed from Scone.

I think your right about Sandy Sandilands. I was thinking David Douglas was from Scone but then thought I was confusing him with "the" David Douglas.

The old FC Dalerb picnic area LatLong 56.58,-4.02, NGR NN 751 451, is now being developed as the replacement site for The Scottish Crannog Centre, since the original crannog on the southern shore of Loch Tay was burnt down in June 2021. This was achieved using a community asset transfer agreement with Forestry and Land Scotland in 2021. When the opening of the new museum site will take place, I do not know, but currently (12-2023) building and construction works are ongoing.

The name of the Head Forester in 1976 was Gordon McBain. His deputy's surname was Sandilands. I can't remember his first name, with David Douglas also based in the office. Gangers included Davie Campbell, Alistair (I think) McDougall (The Red Lad) and Fergie. Fergie's son (Young Fergie) was also on the squad. There was also a man who was known by a name that would now be considered inappropriate. He was deaf and mute and a very cultured and knowledgeable man being a talented painter and widely read. I think his name was David Walker. There was Dochie from Aberfeldy and also a group of younger lads including myself, Richard (Dick) Lawson, Stewart Morrison, Mike Gillies, a guy called Lindsey and Royston from Kenmore who's surname I also can't remember. There was also Les from Liverpool and more whose names I can't remember including the skyline operator who lived in one of the cottages at Dalerb. There was a keeper who lived on the Fortingall road in a Commission house. The office building is still there but the workshop/shed is gone being given over to a picnic area.
