Fire on Muir of Dinnet July 1972

This fire on a warm day in July has taken its toll on the fire crews and volunteers. They are seen battling hard against the flames but the birch tree beaters that they are using are no match against the flames in amongst tall heather and grass. From the area of smoke it looks as though quite a large area of natural vegetation and native trees were destroyed.

"Moorland fire at dinnet. I remember it well 1972. I'd not long passed my driving test,me and my pal Murray Brown followed the tender from Aboyne. It was a hot Saturday afternoon.It burned across the moor until it was stopped at the former Deeside railway. How time flies past,seems like yesterday. Comment left on 22 May 2021 at 07:59 by N
