Falstone Skidder Parts and Instruction Book
The parts and instruction book owned by Colin Smith, Huntly was scanned by Norman Davidson.
Colin never owned this machine and does not know its manufacturing history. The cover has been printed by the Forestry Commission, the rollers, blades and linkage to winch are all from the firm JHB Implements Thetford and the winch has initially been supplied by James Jones (see PDF above for inside view of book).
It is possible that this machine may have been designed and a prototype built by the Forestry Commission which was subsequently taken on in partnership with JHB Implements. The base machine is a 75hp Ford County 4 wheel drive kitted out with Igland? 4000/2 model double drum winch, safety cab and log roller blade.
Can anyone provide a more complete history of the origin of this skidder design and manufacture? Stories by drivers of the machine would also be welcome.
