This video sequence is part of a longer video made by Graham Whistler for Jim Pratt who was Harvesting Head Forester at Inchnacardoch at the time in 1981. The video appears below this text and to play click on central arrow in picture frame.

The sites are in various locations in Inchnacardoch Forest and features Hugh Greig operating the Alp cable crane winch with Ian MacKenzie as ‘chokerman’ (attaches the logs to the cable crane up in the wood and guides their haul out by radio).

The initial shots show Jim Pratt (back to camera) standing on the roadside with Hugh and Ian and then Hugh operating the winch controls. There is also one shot of Jim Pratt (without helmet)carrying a strop up into the felling site.

The background music was played by Jennie MacKenzie (Fort Augustus) on the the clarsach.

Sadly video filming in the early 1980s was rather poor quality. Today we can even do near broadcast quality with a mobile phone. To see more of my later video work go to: www.gwpvideo.com Comment left on 29 August 2021 at 15:40 by Graham Whistler
