Loading Timber Lorry Inchnacardoch Forest 1981
This video sequence is part of a longer video made by Graham Whistler for Jim Pratt who was Harvesting Head Forester at Inchnacardoch at the time in 1981. The video appears at the bottom of this text.
These very high quality Douglas fir logs are loaded onto a Riddoch’s timber lorry and in this case possibly bound for Mosstodloch sawmill where they were milled for a special order. Jim Pratt goes on to say ‘They were among the finest logs we ever produced. After squaring and cutting to size they were taken to Portsmouth and assembled into a raft of very precise dimensions. Then they were towed out into the North Sea and used for target practice! I told Willie Macpherson (Kilmallie Sawmill buyer) never to me the truth about the fate of my logs after that, it was so sickening'.
Can anyone indentify the lorry driver/crane operator and also the type of lorry?
