Mike Phillips, a former research head forester at Newton, published several papers during his career and in retirement. In the attached PDF, Mike details an assessment he made of Scots pine in plots at Findon, Blackisle, where Scots pine from various parts of Britain and Europe were planted in 1934. This early experiment where the pine from a number of localities was planted in individual plots gives an insight into the performance of continental Scots pine and those from other British locations.
