Donald Beaton (District Forester), a keen photographer, produced a number of photographic records of forestry in the district over a 4-5 year period and these are some of his images which were compiled into albums held by the district. Photographs are courtesy of North Highland Forest District.

Rob Anderson, Dalharrold, Truderscaig, who worked for the Forestry Commission for many years with his long service certificate. In the attached PDF (above) of Rob’s retirement presentation event in Bettyhill Hotel some of the other past Naver team members are featured.

Gordon Donaldson who was Head Forester at Bettyhill for a number of years during the 90s recalls hearing that when the Forestry Commission bought the land at Truderscaig and Dalharrold they employed Rob’s father as the shepherd. Gordon thinks that Rob probably joined the Commission immediately after leaving school and that he may have been a tractor driver for period after which he returned home and became a ganger for the squad in that area. He remained a ganger when the local forests at Strathy, Borgie and Strathnaver all amalgamated into one forest unit and even later when the Dornoch Forest District was formed in 1983.

We would welcome any comments and further information on Rob and the other forestry team members who used to work in the Bettyhill, Strathy and Strathnaver areas.
