Exide Bicycle Torch

Old Exide torch designed for use on front of push bikes and may indeed have been used on a forester’s bike at one point. More likely the Government supply dept had 1000s of them and they were used generally around offices, stores and as emergency lights on the hill when fire fighters extinguished fires at night and suddenly became engulfed in darkness.

They must have been made in their millions had one exactly the same on my bike back in the 1950s, the batteries had a bad habit of leaking out when exhausted and corroding the torch.

Not for nothing were they known to cyclists a the 'Never Ready' lamp!
