Newton Nursery 1936
Images courtesy of Alan Duncan, Nursery Manager, Newton Nursery from a small collection of around 20 6x4 inch glass negatives that are stored at the nursery office and date from 1936. The land for the nursery was purchased by the forestry Commission in 1931 and the nursery formed very shortly after.
Looking northwards from the eastern section of the nursery over long board transplant beds of an unidentified plant species (can anyone name? Alan Duncan has suggested Marram grass for stabilising dunes at Culbin).
Further down are seed beds some of which some are covered with lath shading. The farm yard which is now the site of the current nursery office is now easily seen as filled with corn and possibly hay stacks.
