Images courtesy of Alan Duncan, Nursery Manager, Newton Nursery from a small collection of around 20 6x4 inch glass negatives that are stored at the nursery office and date from 1936. The land for the nursery was purchased by the forestry Commission in 1931 and the nursery formed very shortly after.

It would seem that there is a part of the nursery, at this time, in front of worker houses along the Burghead road but separate from the main section close to the A96. By the look of the small deer fenced enclosures and four similar looking sheds it is likely that the house holders could be using the part of the land across the Burghead road for gardens or vegetable plots. Were these house built at this time for the forestry workers?
