Timber Order from AG & WJ Riddoch, Rothiemay

Order for Pitwood products from AG and WJ Riddoch Ltd to Charlie Smith.
At one time the Coal Board ordered all its products through centralised dealers there being only one for the Scottish Coalfields. Over time this buying process was devolved to local sawmills possibly on a price competition basis. In this case Riddochs obviously has a contract to supply products and is sourcing some via a sub contract from Charlie Smith who by this time had set up as an independent contractor and sawmiller.
It appears that Charlie’s contract included delivery of the Coal Board products to the pit depots.

I guess Charlie Smith being a small business was cutting most of his Timber into small sizes to keep his stock down and cash coming in.

Charlie and his two brothers, Jimmy and Gordon were self employed but contracted entirely to Riddoch of Rothiemay. This delivery sheet was arranged by Riddochs but loaded on a lorry by Charlie and his employees. I worked for his brother Jimmy at Aberlour Gardens sawmill from 1961 to 1966 and had one of Riddoch's foresian single bench mills myself at age 17.
