Buried pine tree at Culbin Forest 1990

Foresters Willie Baird and Gordon Rae standing beside excavated pine tree at Culbin Forest which had been partially buried by blown sand in its early life. The pressure of the sand has remarkably restricted the diameter growth of the pine tree at low levels whilst above sand level marked by the white band growth has carried on as normal.
