New timber lorry with hydraulic crane

This appears to be a demonstration of timber lorry being loaded by hydraulic crane and grab. The location and people are unknown as are the lorry and crane type.

Each of the bolster pins appears to have a ring on the top from which a chain is hanging down. The front two sets of bolsters seem to have round pins and the back two rectangle cross section. Can anyone throw light on the purpose of the chains and different pin configurations?

Any pointers to year and location?

I am fairly sure that the lorry is a Bedford KM. The FC had at least one of these during the lead up work prior to the opening of the Pulp Mill at Corpach. It was based in the Stromeferry/Ratagan area where much of this work was done. The colour is wrong for this one to belong to FC.
The chains were thrown across the completed load and connected to a slot(gab) on the corresponding bolster pin. Comment left on 10 February 2011 at 20:36 by Frank Thom

If it's any help, the lorry is a Bedford TK, the predecessor of the KM model. As for the colour being wrong, the old photo has a strong colour cast on it anyway so it is possible it has made the normal FC green look more like blue. Comment left on 22 February 2011 at 14:10 by Frank Love

The tractor unit is a Bedford, but there were so many similar models/ versions of them that it`s impossible to tell which one it is. However, it`s almost certainly not a KM model, as they had twin front bumpers, one above the other. Going by the sidelight and indicator on the cab of this one, and the rear view mirror, I would age it as pre 1972, as I think there was a styling change about then. Even if it was fitted with the "big" engine, it wouldn`t have had more than 120hp, happy days!!!!!! Comment left on 14 November 2011 at 15:55 by Anon
