Snedding with axe

Photograph showing the man swinging an axe as he cuts off a branch from the top surface of the trunk of what looks like a Norway spruce tree. Snedding with the axe has removed the branches nearest to the butt of the tree and he is working his way up to the tip. Branches on the tree tend to lie up the stem and working this way gives the man clearer space and access to swing the axe and remove them.
The location and name of man snedding is unknown.

Yes I did this too in the late 50s - worked for Riddoch of Rothiemay in the forests around Huntly. We were paid per tree, working in thinning pine, spruce etc. Heavy pioneer chainsaw to fell tree then sned with 5lb axe.
