The machine combination, possibly based in Wales, travelled around the country to prepare drier felled sites for planting. The driven toothed discs at the back raked the brash into rows and also scuffed the surface of the ground leaving strips of brash clear but cultivated ground where squads planted the trees.
It was a quick ground preparation system but depended on having dry, free draining sites (as the cultivation was limited) and moderate only brash levels otherwise the site had to be run over twice (first to sort brash into strips and second run to do some cultivation). Plant survival always seemed to be lower than with mounding.
