Date Added: 06 August 2010 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1948 Picture No: 630

Photograph is part of Bill Stoddart’s collection of images taken when he was a lecturer at several Forester Training Schools. The photographs were handed in by his daughter Lilian Allan at the Forestry Memories drop in day at Huntly on 11 June 2010.

Photograph taken at same time as the weevil felling image and possibly around 1948. There is no information but someone may recognise some of the students from their side profile. Is the lecturer a young Norman Tulloch?

Interesting to note the school room equipment, pen and ink, flasks, desks and books. Any information very welcome indeed.

Hi, I wondered could anyone tell me if my Dad Harry Kingham trained here? My father sadly passed away in 2012. Regards Helen Hill Comment left on 30 July 2023 at 15:52 by Helen Hill
Hi Helen. Harry came to Tentsmuir as H/F in70 or 71
I was Forester. Re Forestry school I would think your dad would probably have attended early 50s but where? Sorry no help at all.

Hi Duncan,
Thank you for your reply. I believe he started up in Huntly, then Elgin, Tentsmuir & then he retired from Rannoch in '88. I will have to try & find some old pictures from his forestry years. My sister Patricia, remembers your family & says hello. Thank you again Helen

Hi Helen. I had a quick look through the very limited records available to see if I could follow your dad's career in FC. His name first appears in 1956 as a Forester in Clashindarroch Forest near Huntly. Born in 1930 he could only have been in Forestry Schools as early as 1948 but more likley a bit later than that followed by two years as a Trainee Forester or ex school ganger.

It looks as though he moved to Monaughty Forest (not too far from Elgin) about 1962 as a Forester and in 1970 passed through the grading processs as a Head Forester. Following this he then met up with Duncan in Tentsmuir Forest.

Any photographs of his time in Forestry would be very welcome for the website. I can be contacted on nandh.davidson@btopenworld.com
