Glentress Forester Training School camp circa 1950
Photograph is part of Bill Stoddart’s collection of images taken when he was a lecturer at several Forester Training Schools. The photographs were handed in by his daughter Lilian Allan at the Forestry Memories drop in day at Huntly on 11 June 2010.
This high elevation view shows the layout of buildings in its days as a Forester Training School. Apparently the buildings were erected as a base for training unemployed men in the1930s and during the WW2 was a prisoner of war camp.
Sited about two miles from Peebles, students usually biked or walked to the town but the Newcastle bus did pass on the road by the camp entrance.
