Adder snake sunning at Mar lodge
The images are from photographic slides courtesy of Abbie Gordon, Banchory.
Abbie has come across this Adder warming up in the May sunshine near Mar Lodge in Deeside. They tend to hibernate from October through to March or April depending on warmth and sunshine. Still seen mainly in heathery wooded areas especially if there are sunny patches and some rocky areas. Perhaps less common than several decades ago and a protected species.
