Birds Nest Orchid – Botanical name Neottia nidus-avis
The images are from photographic slides courtesy of Abbie Gordon, Banchory but he has not recorded the location.
This rare orchid is quite a strange plant as it has no leaves and a tangle of roots resulting in its unusual name. It does not have chlorophyll to secure energy from the sun but relies on the ability to tap into the roots of trees and take the nutrients from its host. The pale yellowish green colour is its standard colouration
