The images are from photographic slides courtesy of Abbie Gordon, Banchory. This busy scene shows two of Archie Ferguson of Speanbridge independent long reach loaders fitted with Jonsered 2500 cranes setting up to unload the ship cargo. Initially one crane is lifting a trailer off the back off a lorry.

Can anyone identify the haulier from the blue and red livery? See Comments.

A little further back is a James Jones timber lorry.

J. & G. Riddell Transport, Alford, Aberdeenshire.

The characteristic blue colour and the red tartan band below the cab glazing are very characteristic and the livery is still in use in 2025.

Riddell's are also still hauling timber, both from the forest/wood and then finished sawn timber/house kits.

My regards, Bill

I met both Jimmy and George Riddle long ago when they had separate businesses. Jimmy had a International Drott shovel and he was working at Tormore distillery on Speyside. George had a Fordson Major doing extraction on Candacraig estate on Donside. Comment left on 02 September 2025 at 09:08 by Jimmy Thain
