Auchterawe Nursery, Fort Augustus
Photograph courtesy of Willie Cameron, Rogart.
This group photograph shows mainly people who had applied to join the Forestry Commission and go through the Forestry School system. In those days they were expected to work for two years to gain practical experience and then work as a ganger for a further year before qualifying for entry to the Forestry School.
Auchterawe Nursery, Fort Augustus. From the RIGHT: John MacLeod (Rassay), Willie J Cameron, Bob Ross, David Roberson, C MacAulay (non FC went to University).
John MacLeod was Head Forester at Sunart at one point but prior to this he had been in Police Service in Derbyshire before enlisting with RAF; David Robertson was Head Forester at Queens at one point; Bob Ross left to work as a gardener in Cumberland (apparently he had been a POW 1940/45);
